Death is the single best invention of Life

"All external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure will fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart. Death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It's Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it's quite true.

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma -- which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

- The points I took from Steve Jobs' (Co-founder of Apple and Pixar) opening speech at Stanford University.

The light at the end of the tunnel

Testament to the proverbial mantra "good things come to those who wait", was yesterdays meet and greet with one of our client's finished works. I had definitely not forgot about this job, as it was a hugely involved test of creativity and time. It did, however, take me by unsuspecting surprise when I was walking past CBS's Wintergarden, on lunch hunting with dad. Both the logo on the storefront and the poster are two pieces from the body of work we completed for Fleet. Congratulation to them! The store looks great and if you are clever you will have a browse, for this QUT fashion talent sells for a margin of what the designers will be retailing post graduation. Had to grab a half-embarrasing, half ego-smitten shot.

Jesse Jo Stark

Girl crushing on this swingin' lady. Not sure if I can put it down to one thing... Her entire exterior just emanates unobtainable magnificence. Her last name embodies her style to a tee. In fashion parlance, she ranks in the same effortless, youthful, heroine-chic style aesthetic as Alexa and Rumi. The word from the blogosphere is that she designs for CHROME HEARTS. Keep your eyes on this fabulous monstrosity of coolness.

Oh, Those Russians!

Online fashion magazine, Playingfashion.com delicately depicting my favourite style of the moment. I have been trying to achieve this feather-light, sublime, alabaster demur in my graphic design work. The esoteric connotation achieved through these soft tones and textures is equally inspiring as it is sedating.

WARNING: Browsing through Playing Fashion does ignite desires of Russian fluency!

Of Beautiful Thought

Thanking you, BBC, for Thursday's fact of loveliness.

"Eunoia is the shortest word in English containing all five vowels – and it means “beautiful thinking”. It is also the title of Canadian poet Christian Bok’s book of fiction in which each chapter uses only one vowel."
